FEATURE NEWS | UM Hosts 2nd Accounting Convergence 2026, Fostering Collaboration and Professional Growth
The spirit of generosity and the commitment to make education accessible continue to inspire the alumni of the University of Mindanao (UM) College of Accounting Education (CAE). Encouraged by the CAE Alumni Scholarship Program, another CAE alumnus has stepped forward to give hope to a deserving but financially disadvantaged student and help ensure that financial constraints do not prevent the pursuit of a college education. During the 4th Feast of Hope: A Dinner-for-a-Cause and Appreciation Night held on July 25, 2026, Mr. Antonio Latorino, a CAE alumnus, pledged his support to the CAE Alumni Scholarship Program. His commitment reflects the enduring bond between the College and its alumni and their shared desire to give back by investing in the education and future of deserving students. Fulfilling his commitment, Mr. Latorino formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the College of Accounting Education and the CAE Alumni Associations on August 11, 2026, providing financial support for one deserving student for three years, subject to the terms of the scholarship program. The MOA signing was witnessed by Dr. Eugenio S. Guhao, Jr., Chief Academic Officer of the University of Mindanao; Dean Lord Eddie I. Aguilar of the College of Accounting Education; and Mr. Mark Glenn Parpan, Treasurer of the UM CAE Alumni Association. More than financial assistance, Mr. Latorino's commitment represents an investment in a student's dreams, potential, and future. It demonstrates how alumni generosity can create opportunities for students who might otherwise struggle to complete their education. The initiative directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education, which advances the broader goal of reducing socioeconomic barriers to education by helping a financially disadvantaged student remain in and complete higher education. At the same time, the initiative strongly reflects Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17): Partnerships for the Goals through the collaboration among the CAE and its alumni in mobilizing resources and create sustainable opportunities for students in need.
